What is website hosting and why do I need it?

Did you know when you have a website you also need to have what’s called “hosting” for it? All websites take up space on a server and you need to pay for that space.

Besides being what powers your website (you can’t have a website online without hosting), a good hosting provider also will have security measures in place, such as firewalls, to keep your site safe. If your site is not secure, all kinds of bad things can happen.

I’ve had to help clients who reached out to us after their sites were infected by hacking from overseas spammers that directed visitors to other sites selling spammers own products. Getting rid of the malicious code can be time consuming and costly so it’s much better to be protected in the first place.

Sometimes also a website might crash because some part within the website breaks. One way that often happens is when parts in a website are not updated properly … much like your engine can break if you don’t do the proper maintenance on its component parts.

A good hosting company can restore your website to an earlier version of itself, meaning if it inexplicably breaks one day, the ability to reset it to a week earlier can be invaluable.

At Dauntless Communications, we provide a year’s hosting for free to all our new website clients, and we also are proud of our responsiveness so people can know somebody will be there and be helpful if there’s ever an emergency.
